Or rather in a Plastic Bag ???

Life in a Plastic Bag ................... Life in Green House Projects

Maybe you live already in a plastic bag without knowing it.

If you live in one of the houses absolutely sealed up in because of energy economy measures, you already live in a plastic bag.

so sure about it ? If not read the following.

But before I start to tell you some secrets about this theme read the following.

Going Green

Going Green

The outside walls of a building can be looked at as your skin.

Just like an organic element it dosn’t protect only against weather and heat losses, also it promotes the vital gas exchange between the inside area and undeveloped outskirt area.

in old green housing projects living used to be healthy, because of the inadequacy in the construction methods. This skin function is reduced by overdone sealing measures,(especially, against warm loss).

The insulating hysteria went already so far that inhabitants have suffocated in their own sealed cell. This would not be the case in real green housing projects.

The fact that a regular airing is not possible over the windows often any more is also problematic ; at least not in winter because of the energy losses; and in general in busy zones of the industrial areas and cities, because of big air pollution and noise pollution.

The result:

In the interiors the used air collects and fortifies itself with pollutants. Measurements have proved that this air can be from 2 to three times more toxic than those of a city itself.

Smoke, steams of cleaning products, paints, glues and further plastic products and also gases of radioactive building materials are the most dangerous to our Air.

Therefore, for health reasons 2 to 3 times as much air change should take place per hour in these inhabited rooms. If they can not be ventilated regularly, overdone sealing measures have to be stopped anyway.

In modern highly insulated houses a special meaning comes up to the respiratory activity of the outer walls. It is promoted by different pressure relations, humidity relations and temperature relations between inside and outside area.

The state of floors, ceilings and walls is also Decisive Their porosity adjusts the intensity of the gas exchange. Density materials like foil slides; bitumen paper, plastic wallpaper, coatings from plastic paints and glues, glass, insulating materials of foam plastic or mineral wool or glass wool have an effect like barriers; some of these materials are completely airtight.

By the assessment of the whole building construction, according to their respiratory activity a big problem comes: the wall joints.

the join mortar with lime occupies a special place here. The porous structure of the mortar works just like a filter.

The lime absorbs toxic pollutants from the air. (Lime is also used with the exhaust gas cleaning of power stations).

A cellular wall promotes not only the gas exchange, in addition regenerates air. Healthy walls must be dressed up to remain cellular with suitable cellular construction materials.

Here are to be mentioned, first of all; coconut palm fiber mats, wood, gypsum plasterboards (from naturally gypsum), loam, straw and sawdust which are real green house materials for green house projects

n the course of the energy crisis the heat insulation has become one of the most-discussed subjects with the building of a house.

Mostly different organizations and companies interpret this problem in each case from their own view (and often not quite unselfishly).

For example, the sales representatives of the insulating industry, would not say anything if the houses would have to be covered with a metre-thick insulating layer.

However, the data of some research institutes have proved that a reinforced heat insulation has its advantages, only to badly isolating constructions of concrete or other thin hard building materials.

Green Houses

Green Houses

Properly dimensioned brick walls, with their natural qualities were up to now often underestimated.

Practical attempts have proved, that an additional heat insulation can increase the energy expenses on 20-30% for a brick house with thick brick walls, because the free warm recovery is cut off by the wall from the outside ( relevant is hot air, solar radiotherapy, espacally in transition periods).

In addition, the high expense and amount of work involved in heat insulation, is to stay against one of the most popular insulating materials:

Mineral wool from slags or hut wool is especially radioactive, foamed plastic boards can be charged electrostatically (which the electric climate changes), in the urea formaldehyde foamed plastic contained formaldehyde can cause ocular inflammations, respiratory complaints and skin rashes.

Also the contact with the stone wool and glass wool could be quite irritating to the skin or mucous membrane.

It is a problem that to the production of the most common insulating materials very high energy expenses are necessary.

It is really hard to find construction-biologically flawless insulating materials.

The market is controlled by the current insulating materials.
However, beside the purely practical and material points of view, other criteria should play a role.

The ideal insulating material should be a natural product, from the closer surroundings and the production should use as little energy as possible, and still have good insulating qualities.
In green housing projects insulating materials can become necessary, for example, with weak outside walls, floors above the earth, the uppermost ceiling and the extension of attics.
